Good Friday Procession

The Good Friday Procession in Taormina commenced at Il Duomo at dusk and proceeded throughout the town. At the front of the procession, the women of Taormina who were dressed in black and carrying red lantens, carried the statue of the Madonna which was adorned by fresh flowers through the town centre. Behind then the statue of Jesus being crucified was carried by the town men. The priest and the congregration walked in solemn reflection and prayer at the end of the procession. I walked amongst the crowd of followers for 2.5 hours. It was a moving, reflecting and memorable experience.
